Are there signs a brake pad replacement is due?
Brakes that squeal can be a sign that your brake pads are wearing down; many pads have a small metal piece implanted in them that scrapes on the disc when your brake pads are getting worn, causing that high pitch noise. However, this doesn’t mean you should wait until you hear noises to get your pads inspected, we recommend having your brakes inspected at every service.
It is important to remember that unusual brake sounds are not only caused by normal wear and any unusual noises anywhere in your car should always be investigated by a qualified professional mechanic.
At Carrington Street Auto Repairs we offer a free 65 Point Safety Check with every car service. As part of our Safety Check we inspect the brake pads for wear and will tell you if they call for replacing. We can also advise the right pad for your driving conditions.
How often should my Brake pads be replaced?
Brake Pads can last anywhere between 15,000 to 70,000 km's. This can change according to a number of influences such as; driving conditions and style, regular heavy loads. If your brake pads are wearing out too often your mechanic might advise using a heavier duty or heat resistant brake pad more suited to your vehicle.
